Setting Up Your Hampshire Whites E-Mail

You may wish to have your Hampshire Whites email delivered into your outlook express mail instead of using the web mail service. This can be easily set up by following these simple instructions:

Email works by using servers to carry the messages backwards and forwards. It uses one type of server to receive mail (called POP server) and another type of server to send outgoing mail (called SMTP server). To set up the Hampshire Whites account, you need to enter these two server names.

Open up Outlook Express. On the Menu, choose Tools, choose Accounts and a window will appear. Click on the Mail tab and it should look something like the window shown below. You might already have other email accounts in there. Don't worry, you don't have to delete it, mail accounts can work perfectly satisfactory side by side.

You should now, click on the Add button, the following window will appear. Enter your name, inthe way you would like it to appear when the mail arrives in someone's inbox. It could be your nickname or an alias. Whatever you and other people are comfortable with and then click on Next.

The next window is where you should place your Hampshire Whites email address.
It will be in the form of: (your name goes here)@hampshirewhites.com - You were advised of this in your email confirmation.
Then click on Next.

In the incoming mail server line, you should type mail.hampshirewhites.com
In the outgoing mail server line, you should type mail.hampshirewhites.com
Click Next.

This next window is where you enter your logon details for your email access. It's important to get it right. No pressure here.. just don't mess up. In Account name, enter your email address, i.e. (your name goes here)@hampshirewhites.com

Before you go any further, look behind you, look under the desk, make sure no one is around, now... sssshhhhh put in the password you were provided with just underneath where your email went.

Make sure the Remember password box is ticked, and DO NOT tick the Secure Password Authentication box. Then click Next.

The next is a completion screen, telling you that you've successfully entered all the settings. To save the settings, click Finish.

Pleased with yourself? Easy wasn't it? And you thought you were all done just because there was a 'Finish' button... ha! Hold your horses, just a couple of more steps now.

You should now be back at something that looks like the window below. Highlight your new Hampshire Whites account (which has annoyingly called itself mail.hampshirewhites.com and click on Properties.

The screen below will appear again. I have highlighted the area where it has put in your incoming mail server name. It was very kind of Outlook Express to do this for us, but we're going to change it to something more meaningful. Not really necessary, but I'm a stickler for tidiness so let's change it...

...to this. Type in Hampshire Whites where the mail server name was and click on Apply.

Wow, advanced huh? scary stuff. Don't worry, couple of clicks and it's all done. Click on the Servers tab at the top.

Towards the bottom there is a check box that says my server requires authentication. Click it so that there is a tick in the box as shown below and then click on the Settings... button.

The following window will pop open. Click on Use same settings as my incoming server. Again, DO NOT check the Secure Password Authentication box. I said don't... Now don't test me on this. It won't work, you'll complain, I'll ignore you and then it'll never get resolved. Click Next

You should now be back at the window below box. Click OK

Look where we are now, we're back here. If you want to make your new account the default account from which you send emails from, then make sure you highlight the account and click on Set as Default.

Once you've done that, click on Close. And we're all done.

I know... made it easy for you didn't I? I'm nice like that.
